Tidy desk, tidy mind: We asked experts for their top decluttering tips, whether you work from home or in the office
This was a collaboration with Meadhbh McGrath and several other decluttering experts.
Here is my snippet:
“Organising and desk decluttering: Suzy Kell, a decluttering coach in Dublin (SuzyKell.com), notes that desks can often become littered with crumbs, old mugs and other snack-time detritus throughout the week. ‘Place a tray near you to catch them so you can easily carry them back to the kitchen at home or in the office when you are on your way in there. It’s amazing how well it works’, she says, recommending a round bamboo serving tray if you don’t already have a suitable option…
To help keep your desk tidy, get your wires, cables and chargers under control, Suzy like velcro cable ties. “If there is one thing that has the potential to crank frustration up to 100 in two seconds, it’s catching a wire with your foot unexpectedly. These velcro cable organisers - they stay attached to your cable when unwound and offer a way to keep headphones, USB cables and chargers from enmeshing when your back is turned,’ she says.
Desk drawers can all too easily turn into a dumping ground for a number of notes, receipts and old pens. Implementing a desk orgaiser system can go a long way towards corralling your supplies… Suzy likes the drawer dividers from Utoplike. "‘Much like a cutlery drawer, keeping like with like in designated slots can have a massive impact on your ability to find what you need when you need it. Put stationary, snacks and lip balms in their own little boxes to keep them ready to grab', she says. ”
